Balakasi eyes promotion to Pirates’ first team

"This is my second home, and I am working hard every day to convince the coaching staff that I belong here."

BOPHELONG.- Mthokozise Balakasi is in top form for his team, scoring crucial goals for Orlando Pirates DDC and ABC Motsepe League teams.

This former Kaizer Chiefs development player is enjoying playing for Pirates after joining the club at the beginning of the season.

At the beginning of the year, Sedibeng Ster Sport spotted this Bophelong-born (Vaal) youngster in Pirates’ colours playing a pre-season friendly match against Perfect Academy at the George Thabe Stadium in Sharpeville.

He has been in the books of a few first-division clubs, including Venda Academy and Uthongathi FC in Durban. This was after he spent his football development at Kaizer Chiefs before he was promoted to the DStv Diski Challenge Team.

However, Chiefs loaned him to Uthongathi FC under their then-coach, Papi Zothwane.

The next thing, he surfaced at the Pirates DDC team training ground.

As they say, the rest is history.

He is one of the Chiefs’ development players who shocked many when he joined Pirates.

This former SA U17 National Team forward has an eye on being promoted to the Pirates’ first team, and no doubt, with his current form, the sky seems to be the limit for him. He is one of the top players for Pirates’ DDC and the ABC Motsepe League.  Pirates are topping the DDC log standings and look set to be crowned the champions at the end of the season.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Balakasi said his focus is to help Pirates win the DDC trophy at the end of the season.

“I really enjoy my football career here, and everyone has been supportive from day one. It is every youngster’s dream to play for a big team like Orlando Pirates. This is my second home, and I am working hard every day to convince the coaching staff that I belong here. Pirates are all about winning,” said Balakasi.
