Safer Festive Season Operation Shanela yields great results in Sebokeng

The operation resulted in the apprehension of 30 suspects for a range of offenses.

SEBOKENG.- Police officers from the Sedibeng District conducted Safer Festive Season Operation Shanela last Thursday.

The operation was coordinated and led by the District Commissioner of Sedibeng, Major General Nkhensani Mukwevho, and was executed in collaboration with the following stakeholders:

– Department of Home Affairs Immigration

– Gauteng Community Safety

– GTW

– Patrollers

– Gauteng Traffic

– CPF

– Emfuleni Traffic

The operation resulted in the apprehension of 30 suspects for a range of offenses.

Police spokesperson, Nthabiseng Mokhachane said the objectives of the operation included safer streets, tracing wanted suspects, conducting visible patrols with additional police deployment, compliance with immigration laws, and enforcing compliance with liquor licensing regulations. Suspects were arrested for serious offenses, which included, malicious damage to property, contempt of court, common assault, possession of drugs, selling liquor without a license, harbouring illegal immigrants, undocumented persons, and selling liquor without a license.

Undocumented individuals were also detained and pending legal proceedings, should they be found in violation of immigration laws, deportation procedures will be initiated.

As part of the operation, law enforcement officers searched over 630 individuals, and over 360 vehicles, of which other vehicles underwent verification to determine if they were reported stolen, whereby one stolen vehicle was recovered and copper was found in another vehicle. Over 32 AARTO infringement notices were issued at the roadblock and during a stop and search.

Identified premises were searched, and ATMs, taxi ranks, malls, filling stations, shops, schools, scrapyards, and liquor outlets were also visited. Liquor was confiscated from other outlets because of non-compliance with the liquor licensing regulations.

An imbizo was held at Saul Tsotetsi Sports Centre, where Mukwevho addressed the attendees and further shared contact numbers for the police.

“Major General Mukwevho would like to thank the Sedibeng District community members for their unending support. We urge the community to participate in various structures of community patrols and report any crimes in their respective areas,” Mokhachane said.
