OPINION: ‘Dangers of power surges must not be ignored’

Even in the middle of the night it does this, causing the alarm to falter.

DEAR Editor;

Just a word of caution to residents. I live in the Marburg area and recently we had load shedding and sometimes when the power comes back it goes off and on a few times again before it is restored.

Even in the middle of the night it does this, causing the alarm to falter.

As a result my television blew recently and the smell of burning wires was alarming. Imagine if we were not home!

So, before we left home, we switched all unnecessary appliances off and disconnected them from the wall.

Our household insurance will replace the TV after an excess amount is paid.

What if the damage was worse ?

Residents must please take care. Unfortunately loadshedding is here to stay.
