DA claims Ward 2 in by-election

Some 1 336 people cast their votes on the day out of 3 881 registered voters in the ward.

The Democratic Alliance’s Alan Bosch is the new councillor of Ward 2 Ramsgate after by-elections were held on Wednesday this week.

Some 1 336 people cast their votes on the day out of 3 881 registered voters in the ward.

Mr Bosch claimed 983 (73.58%) votes.

Lwazi Kohli, the African National Congress candidate had 227 votes.

Other candidates who contested the elections were Rochelle Robertse of Vryheidsfront Plus (94 votes); Shaun Mcauliff of Inkatha Freedom Party (10 votes) and Siyasanga Nkonya of the Economic Freedom Fighters (22 votes).

There were no spoilt ballots.

The election was to fill the vacancy which arose when Dave Watson resigned in February.
