Argument over chicken leads to stabbing in Umkomaas

Police are investigating.

A recent evening out with friends took a turn for the worse after a life-threatening fight ensued… over chicken.

A police report indicates that a group of friends were in Umkomaas when they decided to get a five-piece chicken meal. It is believed they were under the influence of alcohol at the time.

When they returned to a residence, one of the friends (the suspect in this case) had already eaten three pieces of chicken, instead of one piece which was initially agreed on.

An argument broke out between the suspect and the friend who made the purchase (complainant). Thereafter, the group went out to purchase a whole chicken.

Back at the residence, the complainant informed the suspect that he should not eat the fresh chicken pieces as he already ate from the first purchase. This led to another argument.

“As a result, the suspect went to his room and returned with a knife and stabbed the complainant five times,” said Captain Ranjith Rampersad, Umkomaas Saps spokesperson.

“He was transported to hospital, and a case of attempted murder is being investigated.”

The suspect has been arrested and investigations continue.
