Car show a big drawcard

The event was one of the first fundraising events for St Martin de Porres School.

St Martin De Porres School hosted a successful car show at the school grounds last Saturday.

The event, a fundraiser, did not disappoint. Both locals and visitors supported it wholeheartedly by showing off their cars, among them classics, new models, bikes, and tow trucks. A sound-off competition was a big drawcard.

The weather played its role in ensuring a steady stream of visitors through the gates to view a varied display of cars and motorcycles. Also, some new models were on show from the various car dealerships on the South Coast.

Visitors also browsed the various stalls which sold a variety of goods.

Gerard Narainsamy entered the sound off competition with his Jetta 3.

This event is the first in a series of fundraisers for St Martin’s, as the school is planning a trip to Gallaudet University in the USA. It will be undertaken by six deaf learners and four teachers.

Out and about are the Govenders (from left) Yvonne, Amira and Ravi.

The trip is historically important to the school, and in particular, the learners, as this is the only university worldwide which is specifically for deaf people.

The plan is to embark on the trip in term 2 of 2025 to show the learners the opportunities available to them.

Demi Losper, the event organiser, said they are delighted with the positive response from both the public and the exhibitors. “We will build on this enthusiasm into the future. We thank everyone from our sponsors to the public for supporting us and making some learners’ dreams come true, ” she said.

It was a family outing for Yvonne, Zahra, Juran and Jerome Moodley.
