JUST IN: No pay, municipal workers go back to striking [WATCH]

Rubbish has been strewn all over the streets of Port Shepstone by the workers.

Angry municipal workers have taken to the streets to strike this morning (February 25).

This comes after Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM) workers returned to work last month after striking for more than three months.

It’s believed that some RNM workers have not received both their February salaries and the two months’ backpay that was agreed upon.

Workers say that only FNB clients received their salaries but without the backpay.

The workers have now gathered at the Chris Hani Square (Dick King parking lot) and are getting ready to march to RNM offices.

A message received by some workers explains that the delay is caused by loadshedding.

The angry workers say they will not work until they get their salaries because debit orders and other financial commitments have been disturbed.

Some services such as the licensing department are affected. This is a developing story and will be updated accordingly.
