DEAR Editor,-
Margate is a small coastal town based on the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal. Margate is known as the centre, but the South Coast stretches along the coast as far as Hibberdene to Port Edward (approximately 72km) and inland to the Oribi Gorge (approximately 40km).
The South Coast has been a tourist attraction for many years with repeat visitors coming back year after year. Our beautiful beaches span from Hibberdene to Port Edward, with the majority of them being ’blue flag’. It is known as a surfer’s paradise with amazing hot spots for professional and amateur surfers and during summer, the beaches are packed with sunbathers and groups playing games. And during the winter months, the beaches are packed because it feels like summer all year round.
There are two major shopping malls comprising a wide range of chain stores and privately-owned boutiques.
Suburb centres also boast grocery chain stores and more and more commercial shops are being filled with locally-owned enterprises.
The night life comes alive with the mardi gras during holiday months where stalls sell everything from clothing to jars of jams and live music fills the air. There are also two nightclubs for youngsters who want to dance the night away. Further inland we have the Oribi Gorge and Lake Eland with amazing views and fun family activities, game drives and zip lines over the nature reserve.
As a business owner, we have found many outside investors starting to invest in this town because they can see the potential of what the South Coast has to offer. Many developments can be seen, which, in my opinion, will further boost the value of the town.
As an investor living in this amazing town, I feel that this place is still a perfect holiday destination with activities for the whole family. Recently I invested in purchasing two businesses in Margate which reaffirms my commitment to this town. It is very exciting and I will continue to invest in the town because I believe there is a lot of opportunity in Margate.
