Karateka shine at open champs

The talented group has raked in the medals so far this season.

A group of karateka once again did the region proud when they represented WKF UGU Karate at the KSA Open Championships held in Durban recently.

The tournament, held on July 15 and 16, at UKZN Westville campus, was attended by a record number of karateka from all over South Africa.

Ugu Karate chairman, Sensei Coenie Vrey, said he was very proud of the number of medals earned.

The following karateka received medals in their respective categories: Tyler Hogan (gold U21 kata), Wian de Beer (silver 14/15 kumite), Darshan Govender (silver 12/13 kumite), Mikhail Peeriyilal (bronze 14/15 kumite), Taylor Selkon (U21 kumite), Gareth Selkon (bronze 16/17 kumite), Divan du Toit (bronze 16/17 kumite), Blake Hogan (bronze 12/13 kumite), Tyresse Farro (bronze 12/13 kumite), Zak Vrey (bronze 14/15 kumite) and Giancarlo Ferrante (bronze 10/11 kumite).
