Big win for DJ champ at Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre
The winner was DJ Sli (Slindokuhle Mnguni) from Newcastle.
Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre came alive recently, as DJs from all corners of KwaZulu-Natal, battled it out for the crown of the best DJ.
The sports venue played host to the DJ Knock Out Challenge 2025. This competition which is its 19th year, is usually hosted in Gauteng.
Sponsored by Red Square Liquor and organised by entertainment company, Halewood, it tested the skills of all participating DJs, however, at the end of each competition there is only one winner, and this was the night for DJ Sli (Slindokuhle Mnguni) from Newcastle who walked away with the winner’s cheque of R50 000.
DJ Sli was super-excited on her win.
The 29-year-old started deejaying in 2017. “It was my wish that I win because I have been trying. It was difficult because the other competitors were well prepared. I have been in this competition since the elimination rounds in October.”
Even organiser, Edward Makhanyi, said they were testing the waters by bringing this event to the South Coast, and the reaction they received is encouraging.
“I know less than 2 000 people were there. We brought it here because it was a better location and venue. We did our research, given a chance to organise it again, I will definitely return here,” said Makhanyi.
