Comrades run with a difference for South Coast Striders’ Victoria

She aims to raise R50 000 for children in need.

South Coast Strider Victoria Forshaw is eagerly anticipating this year’s Comrades Marathon.

It’s the second time she is running this great race, but this year will be more than simply just trying to finish in a good time as she is also aiming to raise R50 000 for children in need.

Victoria Forshaw is running the Comrades Marathon to raise funds for vulnerable children.

She is hoping to make a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable children.

That the race tests you physically, mentally and emotionally is not secret but she is up to the challenge, and more.

“I know that what I’m carrying this time feels different, because it isn’t my own finish line I’m chasing. Through a partnership with Bahari Bay Eco Estate and Distance for Difference, I’m running to raise R50 000 for the children of D4D’s supported foster homes, as well as the children of Rehoboth Children’s Village, right here on the South Coast.”

She said that every kilometre she runs is for a child who needs to know that someone is showing up for them.

Victoria is hoping the community will support her. “I’d love for you to be part of this with us. A donation, a share, or even just a word of encouragement means more than you know.”

Meanwhile, the Striders prepared for the upcoming Comrades with a light-hearted carbo-loading party, where pasta and pizza – and a few beverages – were the order of the evening.

It was a relaxed time, where they had some fun predicting, or ‘guestimating’, their times for this year’s Up Run.

The race takes place from Durban to Pietermaritzburg this Sunday.
