Residents take a stand

If anyone is found guilty of breaking the law they must be held accountable.

ANGRY residents from KwaNzimakwe have demanded that action be taken against the police whom they accuse of brutality. About 300 people marched through Port Edward last Saturday.

The protestors handed over a memorandum which highlighted their many grievances against policemen based at the Port Edward Station, to Brigadier Morris Moodley.

One of their demands is to close the station and for a commission of inquiry to be set up. It is the responsibility of the police to ensure that citizens live in a safe environment. But according to the community some policemen act as if they are above the law.

This vote of no confidence in the police needs to be reversed. Perhaps the police can make the first move by listening to the community. And if anyone is found guilty of breaking the law they must be held accountable.
