RWFL women do club proud

Lizette, Herculaas and Roelof stood on the starter's line for the Longest Day

WHAT an experience this past week and weekend, with many Run Walk for Life (RWFL) activities.

RWFL’s Sannie Liebenberg welcomed athletes from all over the world to Durban for the World Transplant Games, in which she will also take part in the 3,000m walk on Friday.

The club wishes her all the best and may she bring home gold. RWFL urges members to go and support Sannie on Friday night and also be part of this prestigious event.

On Saturday, three RWFL athletes, Lizette Botha, Herculaas du Toit and Roelof van Antwerp stood on the starter’s line of a very long and eventful Longest Day.

The morning was cool, but as the day progressed, it became extremely dry and hot, which saw some participants stop, but RWFL’s team kept themselves cool and hydrated.

They all kept a steady pace to clock the laps and kilometres, knowing they were doing it in aid of a good cause for Faron-Mae Fisher.

Lizette also reeled in the women one by one by the ninth hour, leading the pack to not only win her third Longest Day but in so doing, also completing her fifth, which earned her a permanent number. Well done to this team.

The next step in their bid to collect money for Faron Mae is the Mandela Marathon and the Hundred Miler. If you want to sponsor or pledge money towards Faron-Mae, who has Glycogen Storage Disease type 0 (aglycogenosis), contact Debbie Ellish on 084-402-5800 or Jan Botha on 082-290-4005.

RWFL urges the public to join in reaping the health and mental benefits of training in groups.
