Cycle challenge on track for a new start in Durban
Sunny Durban selected as the start of this year's Engen Cycle Challenge.

This year Durban hosts the first race of the Engen Cycle Challenge on Sunday, 8 September from 6.30am at the Kings Park cycling track.
Last year the Engen Cycle Challenge came to a thrilling climax in Durban where the final race of the three-pronged series was won by Arran Brown and Anriette Schoeman in their respective categories.
More than 1,500 riders lined up in Durban behind the professionals last year and helped contribute to a series that raised R127,500 for the specialist Burns Unit at the Red Cross Children’s Hospital Trust in Cape Town, a core beneficiary of the Engen Cycle Challenge.
Nine professional teams, including last year’s defending champions, have signed up for all three ECC races. The series culminates in Paarl, just outside Cape Town, on 10 November. In between, on 6 October, a new race will take place in Pretoria for the first time, having moved from its previous venue of Port Elizabeth.
The ECC caters for all categories, age groups and distances, providing men and women, professional and amateur alike, from junior age group to great-grandparents a choice to race in a variety of distances.
Durban entries are now open for three different race distances. Cyclists can choose from short (18km), medium (48km) or long (102km). Entries are available online at www.cycleevents.co.za and www.cyclelab.co.za, or they can be downloaded at www.engencycling.co.za.
