Tape Aids for the Blind explained at WI meeting
Tape Aids for the Blind provides free library service to all blind and print-handicapped persons in the language of their choice.
PRESIDENT of Amanzimtoti Women’s Institute, Melanie Venske welcomed all members to the August meeting on Tuesday, 13 August, and a special welcome was extended to Bea Wilson from Cape Town.
The institute received a letter from Pregnancy Crisis thanking AWI for the donation of baby booties and vests.
Amanzimtoti Women’s Institute will be celebrating its 78th birthday on Tuesday, 10 September. Members must not forget to bring their snacks.
It may be of interest to note that the Amanzimtoti Child and Family Welfare Society was started in 1952 by a group of women from the local chapter on the women’s institute, who saw a need for social intervention in the community.
Speaker this month was marketing manager for Tape Aids for the Blind in Natal, Margaret van der Lingen. What an enthusiastic and animated person. Margaret told members they are a national organisation and have branches and service centres throughout South Africa. Tape Aids for the Blind provides free library service to all blind and print-handicapped persons in the language of their choice, as well as a free educational service to blind students.
Margaret Nicholson was kind to AWI this month with her quiz, as the questions were not too hard, and members were happy to answer most of them.
