Training programme to help Rainbow Warriors fund projects
Toti’s Rainbow Warriors are hard at work finalising a number of projects they have put together in the wake of their walk from Toti to Cape Town to help raise funds for animal rescue organisations and people in need.

“It has taken six months of intense research and hard work, but we believe we have now developed a programme whereby all stakeholders benefit,” said founder of the Rainbow Warriors, Terence Olivier.
“Our mission is to ensure our animals and youth have a sustainable future through animal care, protection and welfare training. However, we cannot achieve this if we do not partner with local business leaders. Our team, together with our international training partners, have developed a training programme which targets high school pupils between the ages of 13 and 18.”
With their ‘Adopt-a-Scholar Pet Responsibility’ one-day workshop that Rainbow Warriors will present to Toti’s three high schools in the new year, they hope to:
• Build compassion, responsibility, kindness, citizenship, and teamwork;
• Enhance scholastic abilities such as mathematics, applied science, arts, presentation, literacy and lifeskills;
• Teach pupils community participation and cover many career choices within the animal welfare industry.
“In line with our commitment to the care, protection and welfare of all animals and creating future youth animal ambassadors, we also have incorporated ‘beneficiary assistance’ into the programme,” said Terence.
Every time we fill a class of 12 not only will the youth, communities and animals benefit, but we will purchase R500 worth of much-needed equipment for the school we administer training at.
The pupils will select a local animal rescue centre or shelter as a beneficiary and it will also receive R500 towards their operating costs.
Although each pupil is funded by a business sponsor, we try to instil a sense of ‘giving’ in the pupil. Therefore each pupil will ‘pay’ for their course by donating one item of animal food towards our ‘Pensioner Companion Pet Food’ project.
Many of us have encountered an old age pensioner who lives on a government pension and the only companion they have in this world is their dog, cat or bird. Sadly it is a fact that due to the high cost of living and low income, they share their food with their companion pets.
Rainbow Warriors and our Youth Animal Ambassadors plan to change that. We will supply pensioners with a monthly hamper of animal food and allow our fathers, mothers, grandmothers and grandmothers to live out their golden years without the burden of having to find that extra bowl of food.”
