Amanzimtoti Golf Club’s end of year function and prize-giving

A round of applause goes to the committee for their planning and to Sue D for the use of her home once again.

THE Amanzimtoti Golf Club’s women’s section held its annual end of year function and prize-giving last Saturday, and a great time was had by all who attended.

A round of applause goes to the committee for their planning and to Sue D for the use of her home once again. Following the festivities, the women took to the course for a spot of golf, playing three ball alliance ‘surprise’ format.

Winners on the day were the team of Delene Berry, Charmain Stone and Wladzia Olivier on 82 points, followed by Liz Donald, Estelle Binnekade and Gill Symons on 78 points. Both the nearest the pin and the only two club on the day went to Delene Berry on the seventh hole.

Last Wednesday there were 33 players competing for the IPS win, which went to R Roux with 42 points, on a count out from Brian Stewart and Brian Aldgate.

Friday’s Sundowner nine-hole competition had a great field of 47 players. Taking the honours on 22 points was Robbie S, followed by Steve Conlan and Karl Beck on 21 points each, and in third and fourth spot were Rob Stone and Tommy McNaughton on 19 points.

The men played their medal round on Saturday, and looking at the results one could be forgiven for thinking that they saw these results last month. Taking the A division in fine style once again was Sadeak Khader on 69-2-67, with Bruce Whiting in second spot with 73-3-70. The B division was won by Brian Stewart with 81-12-69, with Billy Williamson in second place on 81-12-70. The C division winner was Wade Burgess on 85-17-68, and second place went to Brian Rhodes 88-19-69. Best gross and best nett went to the A, B and C division winners in that sequence.

Nearest the pin on the fourth went to Bruce Whiting, the 15th was taken by Wade Burgess and Cecil Heydenrych picked up the nearest on both the seventh and 17th holes. Bester Swart picked up the jackpot and the attendance prize carries over to next week courtesy of Peter Tiearney having left before the draw was done.

This coming Saturday the men play their annual turkey trot, and as this is a very popular fixture on the calendar all players are urged to book their spot in the field quickly to ensure a game.

A reminder that the women’s will be hosting the annual rose and thorns trophy event this coming Monday, 16 December.

Format is a four ball alliance, three men and one woman per team. There are still a few tee spots open, contact the club on 031-902-1166 to book a time. All visitors are most welcome to join in on the day.
