Yiboni maths boffs impress

BUDDING mathematicians abound at Yiboni Primary School in KwaMakhuta.

Some 295 pupils from grade 3 to 7 sat for the annual Maths Olympiad at the end of November in the Umlazi district. Top of the class in grade 3 was Amafuzamahle Ngcobo, who out of 98 pupils scooped first place. She achieved 97 % and received a trophy and certificate.

She was closely followed by Ntando Ncwane who achieved 95 % and also received a trophy and certificate.

Their fellow pupils also did exceptionally well. Grade 4 pupils Ayanda Zulu and Ayanda Mkhived achieved above 70 % and received certificates and medals for their efforts.

Grade 5 pupil, Andile Phewa placed third and Siphokazi Zindela also did well. Both received medals and certificates.

“Their love for mathematics started in grade 1 and they have continued to do well,” said grade 3 maths teacher, Nosipho Msomi.

Nospipho also received a trophy for her pupils' sterling efforts.
