Put pothole problems in past
A local pothole repair business has offered its services to assist Sapphire Coast Toti Tourism (SCTT) in making a difference in the community.
Although the local roads department is addressing the potholes as they appear and as best they can, Pro-Phalt is doing its bit as a local business to assist.
“We encourage businesses that want to get involved to contact us so we can work together in making a difference within our community and being Proudly Toti,” said SCTT chairman, Jacques van Schalkwyk.
“Fixing a pothole isn’t going to bring us any more visitors, but it’s one more positive influence in making them return.”
Pro-Phalt uses a pothole repair system that can complete a repair in just 15 to 20 minutes. “Once it has been repaired you are welcome to bring the Titanic over it – it will not crumble,” said Pro-Phalt director, Chris Rey.
The machine uses infra-red technology developed in the UK to repair potholes in six steps. After the pothole has been cleared of loose debris, the 200kg Infra-Red heater situated at the back of the vehicle is lowered over the pothole and it heats the surface area for eight minutes, melting existing road material.
Once the surface has been heated the system is lifted and the existing surface is re-worked. Specially formulated warm asphalt mix is added and spread equally over the pothole. The edges are then rolled out, creating a seamless joint.
“The cost of new materials is greatly reduced because we are recycling parts of the road. Once we have done a repair we keep the GPS co-ordinates so we can always check up on it. We are the only company confident enough to put a warranty on our pothole repairs,” said Chris.
“After the summer season we will engage with the local roads department and SCTT to establish where we can assist once again.”
