Rattling tins and wrapping swells SPCA’s coffers

AMANZIMTOTI SPCA thanks the community for making its festive gift wrapping season a great success.

“We thank the shopping centres who allowed us to wrap their customers’ gifts. We did much better than we anticipated, as the tight global economic condition has impacted on everyone and secondly, we were a bit short-staffed. PRO Jacqueline Smith left us in October and Megan, a great organiser of our Christmas wrapping service had to go to Norway at short notice. Nevertheless, we did very well,” said SPCA chairman, Alice Clarke.

Staff had almost 100 tins of money to count from the gift wrapping service initiative. The amounts raised at the various shopping centres are: Galleria R25,150.55; Arbour Crossing R13,360.40; Seadoone Mall R11,682.70 and Athlone Park Shopping Centre R1,386.37.

“To the volunteers who spent long hours wrapping Christmas gifts and rattling tins, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Without you, we would not have been able to undertake this huge project. We had a massive influx of dogs over the festive season and your help helped us to help them.”

The SPCA thanks the following people for going the extra mile: Pam Moody and the wonderful team at Poinsettia Park and Merle Metcalfe at Arbour Crossing; Del Schaefer at Athlone Park Shopping Centre; Linda, Nokwanda and Precious at Galleria and Anne Swart and Jamie-Lee at Seadoone Mall.

“It has recently come to our attention that people think we have opened a second charity shop at one of the shopping centres in Amanzimtoti. We have not done so and only have one shop at our premises at 1 Nyati Road. Thanks to all those who donate and make it the little treasure trove that it is. May we see a lot of you in 2014.”
