Uncle, nephew arrested for murder

KWAMAKHUTHA detectives and crime prevention unit members arrested three men in Mkhazini, aged between 20 and 43 in connection with a murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm on Wednesday, 5 February.

“On 5 August 2013 at about 8.30pm Mqobi Zungu was shot and killed at his home. KwaMakhutha detectives investigated the case and on 5 February, a 22-year-old man was arrested. Police searched his room and found a 9mm pistol with one round of ammunition. Two rounds of ammunition belonging to another firearm was also found. Detectives also arrested the man’s friend in Isipingo and his uncle at his home in Mkhazini. The men live a few hundred metres from the house where the murder took place,” said Capt Thulani Zwane of the KZN police media centre.

They will appear in Umbumbulu Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 7 February.
