Cliffie Malan of Team Renovate said thieves accessed his premises by forcing the aluminium door open sometime on Tuesday night, 28 January.
“They made off with three desktop computers, which seems to be their modus operandi,” said Cliffie. “I have heard of other robberies taking place in the park recently, where the thieves spicifically targeted computer towers and screens.”
The thieves’ white VW Polo was identified leaving the park at about 6.15am on Wednesday, 29 January. Upon investigation, it was found the registration of the vehicle belonged to a BMW.
It is believed the thieves are targeting computers to sell the information taken off the hard-drives. The police are of an opinion the cyber gang target an area in four or five different vehicles with fictitious registration numbers, saturate it for about two weeks and then move on, according to information passed on to the Sun.
According to an unnamed source, in its 19 years of operation, Southgate Industrial Park has recorded one of the lowest crime rates in eThekwini. Park management has since stepped up security after the robberies.
