Robbed business owner irked by police’s late response

A Toti business owner is furious after police took more than three-and-a-half hours to respond to an armed robbery at his Wista Park premises, in close proximity to Southgate Industrial Park.

The owner, who did not wish to be named, said a black Audi with an ND registration number drove into the park at about 5.45am on Monday, 3 February after the security guard failed to close the gate behind his staff members.

“The Audi drove straight up to our premises. One man stayed in the car and three men, two armed, came in,” he said. Two staff members were held up and the men made off with a computer and sound system valued at R9,000. They also caused about R9,000 in damages to the premises.

“The manager of the park’s security company phoned Toti SAP at 6.05am and then again at 6.15am to report the incident. He then sent an SMS at 6.30am. I eventually drove to the police station at about 8.15am to report it. The warrant officer in the charge office said the patrol van had responded to our complaint, but they couldn’t find our premises. The police eventually arrived at about 9.20am.” By Wednesday morning, 5 February police had still not supplied a CAS number.
