Lions help home become mobile
Four Jona Vaughan Home residents are now mobile, thanks to a donation of wheelchairs.
Cycling For Mobility (C4M) donated the wheelchairs to the home on Friday, 28 March. “Amanzimtoti Lions approached us to assist Jona Vaughan Home with a donation of wheelchairs,” said C4M’s Flavio Scarpa. “These wheelchairs were bought from funds raised at the 2012 joBerg2c cycling event and Scottburgh mountain bike races.”
The team recently handed over six specialised wheelchairs to the Ethembeni School for the Physically Disabled in Inchanga. Last year the kind-hearted cyclists from Scottburgh donated a wheelchair to Henry Hall of Warner Beach.
Jona Vaughan Home is a project of Durban and Coastal Mental Health and provides 24-hour holistic care for 84 children and adults diagnosed with profound intellectual disability. “On behalf of the residents of Jona Vaughan Home and their families, we say a big thank you to Cycling For Mobility for the very welcome donation of four wheelchairs,” said manager, Fiona Anderson. “This will enable four children to join in activities and go out into the garden with their friends.”
