Band gives voters pop-up roadside gig [VIDEO]

Lead vocalist Gavin Welsh came up with the idea while he himself was queueing to vote at the civic centre.

THOSE queueing to vote at Warner Beach Preparatory’s senior campus last Wednesday, 7 May were treated to an impromptu pop-up gig as Toti band, Gus Brown belted out their tunes on the verge outside.

Lead vocalist Gavin Welsh came up with the idea while he himself was queueing to vote at the civic centre. The band members had a scheduled practice gig for later  the same day and he figured it would be a great way to get word out about the band’s music.
“We’re always up for something different and I figured some of our songs ‘struck a chord’ with the voting theme, so it made sense,” he said. ‘Something real to believe in’, written by Dale Vickery, is one of their songs with a political theme, as it speaks of people starving and empty promises.
Gus Brown performed for an hour and a half, to hoots of support from passing motorists and no problems from the Independent Electoral Commission staffers inside. Police officers deployed at the voting station watched their performance, as did neighbours and eager voters.
