Durban pilot in Malaysia crash will be missed

Cameron Dalziel worked as emergency rescue helicopter pilot for Netcare 911.

A Durban helicopter pilot who was a close friend of Toti resident and Netcare 911 media liaison, Chris Botha, was one of the victims of the Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 crash on Thursday, 17 July.

Cameron Dalziel (43) worked as emergency rescue helicopter pilot for Netcare 911 from 2003 to 2007. He was married and had two sons, aged 14 and 4.

He moved to Malaysia last year to take up a position with CHC Helicopters, and according to Chris, was on his way back to holiday with his family.

“Cameron was a phenomenal person, always full of fun and laughing,” said Chris.

He was an absolutely brilliant pilot, the best I’ve worked with. He lived for emergency services and was always willing to go the extra mile. The mood is very sombre among the parademics he worked with. He touched many lives and will be missed.”

The Boeing 777 was apparently downed while flying over separatist-controlled eastern Ukraine on Thursday, killing all 298 people on board. Ukraine has accused pro-Russian separatists of shooting down the plane.
