Five ABC players make PN squads
The winners of the women’s trips competition on Wednesday, 15 October were Meryl Hambley, Maureen van der Poel and Jean Snyman.

THE 2015 Port Natal bowls squads have been announced and at Amanzimtoti Bowling Club (ABC), congratulations go to Doreen Salmond and Jane Coetzee who have been selected to the Port Natal inter-district ‘B’ side to play in the SA inter-district competition in Pretoria in March; and to Julie Sutherland, Delysia Mitchley and Jeanne Alexander who have been selected for the KZN quadrangular inter-district-president’s team to pay in Durban in February.
The president and members of ABC wish them all very good bowling.
The winners of the women’s trips competition on Wednesday, 15 October were Meryl Hambley, Maureen van der Poel and Jean Snyman. Second place went to Susan Erasmus, Denise Bingham and Charlotte Kohl; third place to Vera Broskie, Jacqui Fouché and Talla Stephens-Viviers. In this month’s men’s nominated 2-4-2, the winners were Clive Hambley and Coy Schrauwen on 4+29. Peter Labuschagne and Duncan Wright were second, and Ian Crouch and Lofty van Tonder won the second session on a count out.
Heather Brown’s team of Bobby Henderson, Les Brown and Mike Pitchers won the Big Chicks competition on Sunday. Dallas Davis, Noreen Butler, Dennis Hughes and Eric Klopper were second; and Gerald Chalder-Royle, Ken Leech, Amanda Ninow and Bernie Bretherton came third. First session was won by Jerry Gertzen, Neville Roscoe, Nita Meumann and Kokkie de Kock; and second session went to Willem Pelzer, Alec Stirzaker, Jenny Delport, and Jackie Holdrick.
The prize for coming 13th went to Vince Marriot, Vince Phaal, Andrew Pearce and Leigh Callaghan; and ‘most bowls’ went to the all novice team of Peter and Gayle Snyman, and Sue and Dudley Blount. The 100 board winners were first Neil Oberholzer; second Vince Marriot and third Steve Anderson. Many thanks to Jerry Gertzen, Brian Pascoe and Gladys Hughes for their generous sponsorship of prizes.
At TGIF the 100 board was won by Mickey Roche and the attendance draw by Michael Burns. As Michael was not present that prize will go up to R150 for next week. Glen Scorgie’s key was drawn in the key game, but once again it was not the right one, so the jackpot prize goes up again to about R7,800 for next week. Buy your ticket early to avoid the rush.
Women, don’t forget to get your outfits organised for the Cherry Bell on Saturday, 25 October. Also, several lists have gone up now for entry into honours board competitions and other events such as men versus women singles on 8 and 9 November. Then, on 30 November there will be great prizes for winners in the potjie-cooking competition on potjiekos day, so get your entries in early to make this a really fun event for everyone. Finally, remember that C green will be closed from 3 to 14 November for annual maintenance.
Birthday greetings are sent this week to Doreen Salmond and Beni Chirkoot, and to all members experiencing health problems, especially past club president Alan Smith, the club sends its best wishes and prayers.
