Figure skating leaps and bounds at Galleria Ice Rink
The second edition of the Inter-Provincial Figure Skating Championships landed at Galleria Ice Rink in style.
THE FUTURE of figure skating in KZN is bright as the South African Figure Skating Association (Safsa) KZN hosted the second edition of its Inter-Provincial Figure Skating Championships at Galleria Ice Rink on September 5 to 6.

From just 19 skaters in the first championship, this year’s drew 61 skaters, 26 of which proudly represented KZN.
Chairperson of Safsa KZN, Jo Cossavella said the weekend was marked by development, determination and community.
“Figure skating is a sport that is actively developing new pathways, expanding its reach and creating tangible opportunities for athletes to progress from grassroots skating towards higher-level competition. Ubuntu reminds us that no athlete succeeds alone. Every skater standing on the ice represents a network of people who have supported, taught, encouraged and believed in them. That is how we grow a sport,” said Cossavella.
One of the standout features of the weekend was the iTheku Future Stars Championships, an initiative designed specifically to give developing skaters valuable competition experience before they enter the formal competitive stream.
Cossavella added that Safsa KZN looks forward to welcoming skaters from all over South Africa to future events, continuing to build a stronger, more inclusive and fiercely competitive future for the sport.
