DSW confirms removal of cow carcass
The cow was eventually removed a week later, but it remained a mystery by whom.
eThekwini Municipality has confirmed Durban Solid Waste (DSW) did remove and dispose of a dead cow left outside Toti SPCA two week’s ago.
Visitors to Toti SPCA were appalled to see and smell the rotting carcass on the road verge opposite the animal organisation’s front gate.
The cow had been transported to its Nyathi Road premises by Toti SAPS on Sunday, 28 September, as it had been injured by a vehicle in Kissin Lane and had to be euthanased.
However, DSW initially refused to collect the body as it was on SPCA property. It was then moved outside to the lawn opposite the SPCA on Wednesday, 1 October.
The cow was eventually removed a week later, but it remained a mystery by whom.
“The DSW Unit did remove the dead animal,” said eThekwini Head of Communications, Tozi Mthethwa.
“The procedure that DSW follows when getting rid of a large animal’s body that is within their jurisdiction, is by arranging for the animal to be lifted and buried.”
