Lions cakes on sale ahead of Christmas

Christmas cakes are available at any Lions clubs in the Toti area.

All three Toti Lions clubs are selling Christmas cakes to raise funds for welfare projects in the local community.

“Any money received from the public goes back to the community,” said Lion, Kryn Haus. The cakes sell for R75 each.

“The Christmas cake story began in 1975 after a Lion member visited Australia and brought back the idea to Lions Multiple District 410. The first cakes for District 410C were baked by Sunblest Bakery and next by Bakers Bakery and for about 25 years by Albany.”

This year the cakes are baked by the Muffin Club.

The price of a Lions Christmas cake in 1975 was R3.50 and District 410C once sold more than 100,000 cakes.

“Shoprite also sells the cakes on our behalf, as part of their social conscience. The main purpose was to raise funds for projects at club, district and multiple district levels, such as Operation Bright Sight and Diabetes,” said Kryn.

Christmas cakes are available at any Lions clubs in the Toti area.
