SEVEN dogs have been poisoned in Doonside in a week between Sunday, 1 February and Tuesday, 10 February.
“Four of the dogs have died, one has survived, a sixth one is fighting for its life and another was rushed to the vet on Wednesday, 11 February,” said Stacey Quaroni whose two neighbours’ pets have fallen victim to the poisoner.
“The poisoner is throwing bits of food laced with what seems to look like poppy seed in it. The black man casually strolls past and throws the contaminated food over the wall and continues on his way. He has been seen twice by people in the area, unfortunately the dogs ate the food before the owners could get to them.”
One woman lost two of her pets and out of fear, has sent a third pet away for safekeeping.
Dogs have been targeted in Middleton Road, High Level, Umsind and at the corner of Highway and Adelaide Roads. It is believed the poisoner uses the Doonside pedestrian bridge to make his escape.
A woman whose one dog was poisoned, rushed a second dog to the vet on Wednesday, 11 February. The dog had picked up a long marrow bone which contained what looked like rat poison pellets (pink in colour) and brown pellets inserted in the marrow of the bone.
“The dogs suffer horribly, they convulse and bleed out.”
According to Stacey, the CCPO and police are aware of the incidents. If anyone witnesses any suspicious-looking man lurking in the area, they are urged to contact the police on 031-913-1300 or CCPO on 083-393-5066.
