Anja bids Toti farewell

Although I'm sad to leave, I'm looking forward to spending more time with my children and grandchildren.

Well-known local, Anja Roodt bid Toti a fond farewell when she relocated to Parys in the Free State on Saturday, 21 February.

Anja was born in Pretoria and her footprints can be traced back to 1974 when she first arrived in Toti, married then to Fanie Roodt.
Two children, Sonja and Stefan were born to them.

She was involved in Kuswag Skool beheerliggaam, Moederskring, Dameskring, Voortrekkers, Goggabie Sanggroep, Suidkus Toneel, badminton, Branderkruin Sakekamer, Dutch Reformed Church and fulfilled her role as mayoress when her husband was mayor in 1987 and 1988.

Besides all her extramural activities, she always found time for her hobbies, which included writing children’s books entitled ‘Skerfies Vir Nerfies’ in Afrikaans, and ‘Marshmallows For Minors’ in English and ‘Titbits For Toddlers’, gardening, sewing, dancing and hiking.
“My motto has always been to live life to the fullest,” said Anja.

She left Toti in 1995 after her divorce, but returned in 2001.

She opened The Moroccan Guest House on Seadoone Road on 14 November, 2003.

“I will miss my wonderful friends, the sea, the whole Toti vibe and being part of a family,” she said before leaving for the next chapter of her life.

“Although I’m sad to leave, I’m looking forward to spending more time with my children and grandchildren.

Toti will always be near my heart. But being like an oyster, always on the move, the chances are good I’ll be back in Toti one day.”
