
A 31-YEAR-old man, Mondli Prince Mthembu was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment in the Durban Regional Court on Thursday, 12 February for the murder of Thulani Eric Ngcobo.
“On 27 April, 2014 at about 3am, Ngcobo (24) was walking home from Phola Sport Tavern with his girlfriend when Mthembu approached him. He was was known to the victim. He started a quarrel with him and stabbed him in his chest at the KwaMakhutha taxi rank in Kingsway, Toti,” said communications officer at Toti SAPS, Capt Charlene van der Spuy.
Ngcobo was was certified dead on the scene by a paramedic.
“Mthembu fled on foot but with a full description given by the victim’s girlfriend and in which direction he ran, he was arrested a short time later next to Afsaal flats in Beach Road, Toti with the assistance of members of the CCPO.”
A case of murder was opened and investigated by Toti detective W/O AS Hlubi.
Mthembu was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment and also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
