RWFL’s Comrades hopefuls taper their training
Frikkie Wondergem is another Comrades novice and like Peter, he will be hoping to get in comfortably before the cut-off time.
WITH the Comrades Marathon only three weeks away, the racing calendar seems to have tapered off a little bit.
With not much in the way of racing on this past weekend, Run Walk for Life Amanzimtoti’s (RWFL) Comrades hopefuls put in what should be their last long distance run.
The key to a successful Comrades is not only lots of training but also lots of recovery, especially in the next three weeks leading up to the big day. Warren Gibson, RWFL club road captain, will be tackling his 2nd Comrades and also his first up run. He is hoping to run under 9hrs and his training and racing has shown that he has the ability to do this. Peter Moodley will be doing his 7th Comrades and he is looking more at
making it comfortably to the finish in under 12 hours. Robbie Anderson is a novice and only started running last August. It will be interesting to see what time he is capable of and RWFL is hopeful he can get home in around 11 hours.
Frikkie Wondergem is another Comrades novice and like Peter, he will be hoping to get in comfortably before the cut-off time. If you aspire to one day do the Comrades Marathon like these members, go down to RWFL’s training sessions on Monday, Wednesday or Friday evenings at Amanzimtoti High School grounds between 5pm and 6pm.
