An Athlone Park man was stabbed during a daylight home robbery on Tuesday morning, 26 May.
Blue Security operations manager, Brian Jackson said the robber had jumped over a back boundary wall into the garden of a property in Shepstone Road at about 11.30am.
“The robber stabbed the resident in his left arm and fled with his wallet and cellphone. The resident was taken to hospital for medical attention,” he said.
Amanzimtoti SAPS attended the scene of the crime.
Jackson said the incident was the latest of several crimes reported recently following housebreakings in Saltwood Road, Lewis Terrace and Tecoma Place in Toti and a housebreaking in Burne Road in Athlone Park.
“Housebreakers targeted these properties during the morning in most cases and gained entry by forcing their way through fences and doors and removing louvre windows,” he said.
Items reported stolen goods, included electronic goods such as televisions, cameras, a tablet and cellphones.
Jackson advised residents to ensure windows were closed and that the house alarm was armed during the day when no-one was home.
“Housebreakers tend to stake out properties before striking, to familiarise themselves with a resident’s movements and the property’s weak spots that allow for easy access and a swift getaway,” he said.
“We advise residents to take a walk around their properties to assess and attend to any vulnerable spots, such as glass doors and louvre windows without adequate burglar bars, rusted or lose burglar bars and any thick bush that could provide a hiding place for intruders.”
