Truck driver injured during protest action in Prospecton

Protest action at Prospecton leading up to the March and March mass protest on June 30 left a truck driver injured by debris.

A TRUCK driver was struck by debris and sustained injuries during anti-illegal immigration protest action in the Prospecton, Isipingo area today (June 24).

Emergency responders KZN VIP released a statement on the incident, explaining that according to information received, the truck driver was exiting a container depot when members of the crowd allegedly began throwing bricks at the vehicle. One of the projectiles shattered a window and struck the driver on the head, causing injuries.

“Reports further indicate that as the driver attempted to leave the area, several individuals allegedly burst bottles and attempted to assault him. Law enforcement officers intervened, and measures were taken to disperse the crowd. The protesters subsequently fled the area,” said KZN VIP.

Due to concerns for his safety, the injured driver left the scene immediately following the incident and will seek private medical attention. The extent of his injuries has not been confirmed at this stage.
