Well-known Molly will be missed
She will be remembered by many who had their wedding dresses beautifully made by her.
Molly Maughan died on Friday, 22 May, just a month after celebrating her 88th birthday.
Molly was well known to many on the South Coast.
Born in Doonside, she spent all of her school years as a boarder in Ixopo.
She married Paddy in 1951 and they lived in Warner Beach where they raised their two children, Alan and Cheryl.
“Molly worked at AECI for a while, then she did audit work during the war and thereafter worked as a seamstress from home,” said her daughter-in-law, Jean.
“She will be remembered by many who had their wedding dresses beautifully made by her. She continued sewing up until about six months ago.”
At school Molly excelled in sport, achieving the victrix ludorum one year. Her love for sport continued and she played tennis at Umbogintwini Tennis Club for many years.
After that she took to playing bowls, which she was also passionate about.
“Every opportunity she got she would be out playing bowls and only stopped recently when her health prevented her from continuing.”
A while after Paddy died, she moved from her flat in Doonside to Mooihawens in Winklespruit.
“She was diagnosed with fourth stage cancer last August and as her health deteriorated, she continued to be incredibly upbeat, always putting others before herself. She was such a testimony of humility and caring and she endured her illness without complaint and accepted each step with grace.”
Molly will be greatly missed in the community and by her family.
