Bring and braai after beach walk to mark ‘blue moon’

The second full moon is called a blue moon.

ON Friday, 31 July, a group of beach walkers urge anyone to go along and celebrate the ‘blue moon’ with a bring and braai, after an evening stroll on the beach from Warners to Winkle and back.

Every three years or so, a full moon will occur twice a month. On 2 July there was a lovely full moon, and there will be another on Friday, 31 July.

The second full moon is called a blue moon. The infrequency of this occurrence gave rise to the expression ‘once in a blue moon’ where one refers to something which rarely happens.

Every month since January, a group of friends – sometimes called ‘Lunatics’ or also known as ‘Werewolves’ – have walked from Baggies at Warner Beach to Winklespruit Beach and back, starting at 5.30pm. They invite the public to join in the walk and the post-walk bring and braai. Take along your own braai goodies.
