ATM card theft gang comes up short

They were searched and found to be in possession of several bank cards that did not belong to them.

A gang of ATM card thieves was netted after a man was robbed at Seadoone Mall at about 10am on Saturday, 26 March.

A member of the public alerted the Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) after he was robbed of his ATM cash card by four men.

The CCPO apprehended one of the robbers, while the other three made their getaway in a Blue Toyota.

The vehicle’s details were circulated on the CCPO and Toti SAPS radio network.

An ET Tactical Response Team drove past the robbers on Kingsway. The unmarked TRT vehicle followed the men into the CBD, while in contact with Metro K9 unit officer, Shawn Jooste.

“We swooped in and apprehended the remaining three robbers who were waiting to see if their friend who they left behind had managed to escape,” said ET Rapid Response South Coast managing member Tony Lokker.

“They were searched and found to be in possession of several bank cards that did not belong to them. The victim from Seadoone Mall’s ATM card was also in their possession.”

The robbers were arrested and charged.

“This is what we can achieve by working together. It was great team work again,” said Lokker.
