Lions bowled over by response to wheelchair plea

It is lovely to know there is so much love in our community.

Amanzimtoti Lions Club thanks the Toti public for the overwhelming response to source a child’s wheelchair for a three-year-old boy.

“My son Manqoba Shandu was born on 31 August 2013 with the ability to walk, but at the age of 19 months he was involved in a car accident,” said his mother Bongiwe Shandu.

“He was admitted to Chief Albert Luthuli Hospital where he was treated for two weeks.

Doctors diagnosed him with spinal cord edema, which is swelling of the spine. He now has no feeling from his belly button down to his legs and has to wear nappies.

He is receiving physiotherapy at Prince Mshiyeni Hospital.”

The Lions issued a plea for the donation of a children’s wheelchair to assist Bongiwe and Manqoba, and were overwhelmed by the positive response they received.

“A big thank you from the Lions Club of Amanzimtoti for all the kind offers from people in and around our community to purchase a wheelchair for little Manqoba,” said president, Carol Botha. “We received a brand-new one for the child from Johan Kruger of JK Outlets in Warner Beach. It is lovely to know there is so much love in our community.”
