Amanzimtoti schools show respect to their elders

Selected children from the four schools showcased their talents.

Amanzimtoti residents are already reaping the rewards of a character transformation programme adopted by all local pre-primary, primary and high schools.

Athlone Park Primary, Kingsway High School, Moyeni Pre-Primary and Umbogintwini Primary put on a mini concert at Poinsettia Park for the elderly to demonstrate ‘respect’ for the elderly as part of their ongoing character transformation drive.

“As part of our character transformation programme this term, all schools in our community have focused on three aspects of respect,” said acting principal of Athlone Park Primary, John Vorster.

The respect characteristic entails paying respect for ourselves, our environment and for the elderly.

Melanie Slier of Athlone Park Primary co-ordinated the concert and ensured all the residents enjoyed a wonderful afternoon of entertainment.

Selected children from the four schools showcased their talents in piano recitals, choral verse, gymnastics displays, tap and modern dancing, individual poetry and massed choir items.

“Each resident received a gift bag of goodies with the most beautiful cards that our children created and the staff at the four schools provided the most delicious snacks to enjoy with their tea,” said Vorster.

The children then interacted with the grannies and grandpas and everyone enjoyed the abundant hugs, kisses, laughter, friendship and love that was clearly evident during the afternoon.
