CCPO re-arrests serial burglar after his escape from Amanzimtoti police cells

After he was arrested he managed to secure bail, and shortly afterwards, broke into a premises in Oceanview Road.

A wanted criminal who had escaped from custody a few weeks ago was re-apprehended on Tuesday, 24 July in a joint operation by Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO), ET Rapid Response South Coast and Blue Security.

“After we got word that this suspect was back in the area, we activated our informers, and after many hours of waiting patiently and holding observation, we managed to apprehend him when he pitched up in Winklespruit,” said CCPO committee member, George Snodey.

This is the same criminal who stabbed a resident in a home invasion in Middleton Road Winklespruit.

After he was arrested he managed to secure bail, and shortly afterwards, broke into a premises in Oceanview Road, Winklespruit. Unfortunately for him the resident caught him in action on his CCTV, and after the CCPO viewed the footage, we realised it was the same thug involved.

Within two days he was re-apprehended and detained for housebreaking, however, he managed to escape from Amanzimtoti police station.

“He has been on the CCPO’s wanted list since his escape, as he is obviously a dangerous element, and belongs in a cell,” said Snodey. “We were not going to rest until he was back in custody and our perseverance paid huge dividends. Thanks to ET and Blue Security for their assistance. With the numbers that surrounded this thug, he had nowhere to go.”
