
THREE men saved the life of a motorist trapped in his burning car.
His vehicle hit the back of an articulated truck and burst into flames on the N2 south at 11pm on Tuesday night.
The accident happened under the Almond Road bridge, when a passenger vehicle driven by Jeff de Winnaar of Ramsgate hit the rear of a Unitrans truck from Illovo Sugar.

THE Kingsburgh Council did an about-face on an earlier decision not to substantially increase its financial grant to the SPCA for the collection of stray animals in the borough.
At Tuesday night’s council meeting, it was decided that in future payment would be made on an individual basis for stray animals collected in the borough.

THE South Coast Sun once again featured in the top placings in the prestigious Cronwright Trophy competition for sold newspapers with a circulation of over 5,000.
The SUN placed fifth in this year’s competition, having not featured for the past two years. Criteria taken into consideration by the judges included news value and language usage, typography and layout, pictures, printing and production and advertisements.

KINGSBURGH Lions Club has been hard at work over the last few weeks.
The club has sponsored the college fees for a paraplegic to attend computer college, as well as sponsoring remedial lessons for a local primary school child.
The Lions appeal to the community for donations of second hand baby clothes, maternity wear, cots and prams. These items are sorely needed to assist the local Pregnancy Crisis Centre in their support and assistance of pregnant, young, unwed girls.

THE Toti CBD will revert to the motoring days of yesteryear on Saturday, when over 30 veteran cars will be displayed to the public.
Members of the Veteran Car Club will be hosted to breakfast in the Village Square on Saturday morning prior to departing for a fun rally around Toti. The cars, which include an 1936 Alvis Silver Eagle, an Austin Royal Mail Van and a 1953 split-window Beetle, will be on display on Saturday throughout the CBD, and the usual DJ entertainment will be provided in the village square.
