Spring clean with Toti SPCA in mind
The thrift shop raises much-needed funds for the shelter every month, but often runs low on things to sell.

THIS Spring, Amanzimtoti SPCA asks the community to keep the shelter’s thrift shop in mind when looking to clean out, clear out and give their unwanted belongings away.
The thrift shop raises much-needed funds for the shelter every month, but often runs low on things to sell.
“We need second hand goods we can resell,” explained SPCA’s Michelle Hannan. “We don’t take electronic appliances that don’t work, but everything else we will take. With the Christmas holidays around the corner, the shelter cares for many strays and spends a lot of its funds on feeding and caring for all these animals.”
The local shelter has recently invested in a two plate stove that staff are using to cook food for the animals, as cans and ready-made food is too costly.
The community and its businesses are urged to donate the following basic foods:
- Dog, cat, puppy and kitten pellets and soft food
- Pet’s mince
- Chicken skins, hearts, livers and gizzards
- Rice and pearl barley
- Peas, carrots, sweet potatoes and butternut
- Mutton or beef flavoured stock cubes
- Old newspapers, collars and leashes
- Cat litter
If you’re unable to assist the shelter in these ways, the community is reminded of other ways in which they can contribute and play a much-appreciated role in the SPCA’s existence.
Donations of money, food, clothing and unwanted household items and basic medications, select the Toti SPCA as your My School card beneficiary, support the SPCA’s charity shops in Scottburgh and at the shelter in Athlone Park, volunteer to walk the dogs or work in the thrift shop, adopt the new addition to your family from the shelter thus saving a life, report acts of animal cruelty to the shelter together with footage as evidence.
