Swift response leads to housebreaker’s arrest

ET Rapid Response’s tactical response team, along with Toti SAPS, waited ahead of the suspects, with officers in hot pursuit.

Swift teamwork between police and law enforcement officers led to the arrest of a housebreaker and the recovery of stolen goods on Wednesday morning, 20 February.

After a break-in at a premises in St Winifreds by four men at about 10.30am, details of the getaway vehicle were broadcast over the CCPO radio channel. “Not long afterwards, a CCPO and Blue Security patrol officer, Mbuyiselo ‘Triple M’ Mdunjane spotted a vehicle outside a property in Doonside, which raised his suspicion,” said CCPO committee member, George Snodey.

When Triple M went in for a closer inspection, the vehicle sped off. He followed it, while keeping other officers updated on the radio. ET Rapid Response’s tactical response team, along with Toti SAPS, waited ahead of the suspects, with ET, CCPO and Blue Security officers in hot pursuit.

The suspects’ hasty escape came to a sudden halt at the M37 and Old Main Road intersection, where the tactical response team jammed in and apprehended the driver. Unfortunately his three accomplices escaped.

“Stolen goods from the St Winifreds break-in, as well as house breaking implements were found inside the vehicle’s boot. The CCPO network once again proved unbeatable,” said Snodey. The man was arrested and charged at Toti SAPS.
