[VIDEO] Suspects open fire on response officers

Neo was admitted to hospital and is recovering from the ordeal.

Three men were arrested for attempted murder after they hit a K9 officer with their vehicle and fired shots at response officers. On Monday morning, 29 July response officers were alerted to a disturbance at a petrol station on Moss Kolnick.

The men who were causing the disturbance left the site, but returned a short while later. When they arrived, they saw Neo, ET Rapid Response’s K9 officer on the fore court talking to the CCPO supervisor. They accelerated to run him over and hit Neo with the front right side of their car. They then stopped and the men pointed a firearm at the CCPO officers.

As they drove off, shots were fired at the ET and CCPO officers, who returned fire. A Metro Police K9 unit officer, who happened to be at the garage at the time, joined in the chase, which ended when the suspects abandoned their vehicle in Lewis Drive with shot-out tyres.

ET’s K9 unit walked the spoor to where the suspects left the bush and got picked up, and Metro’s K9 unit arrested two of them about an hour later in the area.

At about 3pm a call was received of a gun shot victim at Scottsburgh Hospital, who was identified as one of the suspects from the vehicle, and he was arrested. Cases of attempted murder were opened at Amanzimtoti SAPS.

“Neo was admitted to hospital and we are happy to report that he is okay with just some bruising,” said ET Rapid Response South Coast managing member, Tony Lokker. “Thanks to all the role players who assisted with good results in the end.”
