Toti bowlers awarded at AGM
There was a good turnout at Toti Bowling Club’s AGM on Saturday, 7 September.
The annual prize-giving followed when honours board competition winners and runners-up received their trophies and prizes. Member of the year was Pete Callaghan in recognition for all he does for the club. The most improved bowlers were Leigh Callaghan and Dave McMillan.
Jane Coetzee was the women’s player of the year for her many achievements, especially winning the women’s open singles and representing the club in PN champion of champions where she reached the quarter finals.
There was a standing ovation for the men’s player of the year, 85 year-old Lofty van Tonder, who won the men’s open singles and got to the quarter finals of the champion of champions. He also skipped the winning drawn fours team, proving that age is just a number.
Five of the teams won their sections in the Port Natal pairs competition. Going through to the second round are Jeanne Alexander and Jane Coetzee who play at Stella Park on Sunday, 15 September, and playing at Durban Wanderers on Saturday, 14 September, are Adie Fuller and Steve Woor; Ian Crouch and Alec Stirzaker; Greg McLeod and Barry Bush; and Dion Audie and Andy McDonald.
Winners of the women’s 2-4-2 were Jeanette Els and Sue Welch; runners-up were Tokkie de Kock and Dawn Schauer; and the second session went to Elbie Fourie and Cathy Badenhorst. Julie Sutherland won the 100 board. At TGIF, Mike Roberts won the 100 board. Amanda Ninow missed out on the members’ draw, so next week’s draw will be R350. Lys McDonald had no luck in the key draw, so next week’s key will be worth R4 270.
Birthday greetings this week to Bob Southey, Herman van Zyl and Aleta Evert. Get well to all members who are sick.
