Ward 97 councillor, André Beetge informs the Toti public that DSW staff members have gone on strike. “This affects the South and West areas of the city. No refuse will be collected today. Yesterday (Monday, 16 November) we were informed that they were on a go-slow and some areas might not be collected. This morning, members gathered at the Springfield depot and they have gone on strike.”
Members are objecting to DSW cutting back on overtime in an effort to reduce expenditure. “We don’t believe there is a need to increase the overtime budget as the better part of the job can be done in normal work hours. All too often we see DSW staff standing around chatting, playing with their phones and not working to expectation.
“We ask residents to not put their refuse out. We will be exploring other alternatives, obviously all depending on the outcome of today’s action.”
