Illovo beach in a deplorable state [LETTER]
The present state of the sea and beach is definitely not conducive to encouraging return business.

EDITOR – I’m presently in residence at Illovo Beach, down from Joburg taking a couple of weeks break with my wife.
As part of my relaxation I like to walk on the beach and get my feet wet in the sea. But, to my dismay, over the past week, I have generally found the sea to be washing the beach at Illovo with sewage.
On a couple of the days, it has been so bad (actually disgusting) that I would not even entertain the thought of walking in the sea. As you are well aware, Illovo is a holiday resort centre. It has a couple of hotels, caravan parks and some time share flats.
The present state of the sea and beach is definitely not conducive to encouraging return business. I’m wondering if anyone has made an issue of the state of the beaches down here in the deep south or have reported on what may be the root cause of the pollution?
Or if the issue is well-known and is perhaps being addressed by eThekwini Metro with the intent to eradicate the cause?
