Isipingo Beach fish clean-up has started
eThekwini Municipality has shouldered the blame for the environmental tragedy that has been widely condemned.
THE eThekwini Municipality has announced that it has begun a clean-up operation at the Isipingo Beach lagoon after a sewage spill into the estuary led to thousands of dead fish washing up onto the beach. It said specialist clean-up crews have been deployed to safely collect and dispose of the fish.

“Once again, the public is advised to refrain from fishing in the vicinity, and from collecting or consuming the dead species while the clean-up operation is underway. Contact with the lagoon and seawater must also be avoided,” read the statement.
While the municipality has previously admitted that the sewage flowed from the Beach Road pump station that malfunctioned, it said an investigation to ascertain the root cause of the pollution is underway.
The statement went on to say that the water quality in rivers and beaches will be continuously monitored through sampling and field surveys.
